01.11.27.23 – Life Goals & Career Paths…

Welcome to my first entry! As I mentioned on my About page, this blog going to start off as random “lifestyle” entries until I decide on a niche. Think of it like my journal. If particular topics strike your fancy, please don’t hesitate to let me know. I’m open to any and ALL suggestions. Thanks for bearing with me!


I started my current job as an administrative assistant 8 months ago, today. I love it and it seems the perfect job for me: Planning, organizing, and calendar management are all things that I’m really good at and genuinely enjoy. However, I know that I don’t want to be in this role for the rest of my career. However however, I also don’t know what I want the end goal to be.

Crazy how we were supposed to “know” what we wanted to be when we grew up back when we were in elementary school. I distinctly remember having really vague aspirations like “scientist,” “artist”, and—a bit more specific—”dancer.” What percentage of us are actually doing that or something similar? For those of us with college degrees, what percentage of us are even working in the field that we majored or minored in!?! I have a BFA in Dance from Fordham University and the Ailey School and, up until last month, I probably only danced once a month when I paid $25 to take class. (And before you ask, I have no interest in teaching dance. I enjoy being the center of attention too much; I want to be the performer.)

Based on my skills, many people think program/project manager would be a good fit for me, but I don’t see myself jumping out of bed and being excited to do that everyday. When thinking about potential roles, I know you’re supposed to consider your skills, interests, and non-negotiables, so…

Idk about you, but I’m seeing a lot of “travel” on this Venn diagram. I’ve had the ideal of a travel agent/concierge. But not the kind that just plans the trips and that’s the end of it; the kind that you see on Real Housewives of Whatever that plan very elaborate, expensive, luxury trips and then act as hosts on the trips.

The question there, though, is are there enough growth opportunities in that…
